How to choose
Choosing a donut or cave dog bed
Do you have a curler or a sprawler?
A donut suits dogs that sleep curled in a ball. A dog that stretches out flat will use only a corner of one. If yours sprawls, a crate mattress or an orthopaedic bed is a better match.
Check the diameter
Donuts are sized by their diameter, and the ones here run from 70 to 80cm. Measure your dog curled up, then choose a bed that gives about 10cm more all round.
Deep fur and shedding
Long-pile fur is cosy, and it also holds hair. A weekly shake and a lint roller keep it fresh, and a machine wash at the temperature on the care label does the rest.
Where it goes
A quiet corner, away from draughts and the busiest walkway, is where most dogs settle best. Give the new bed a few days before deciding whether it works.
