How to choose
How to choose an orthopaedic dog bed
Memory foam, egg-crate foam or both
Memory foam moulds slowly around the dog and springs back slowly. Egg-crate foam has a ridged surface that spreads weight and lets air move. Several beds here layer the two. Read the product page to see which one the bed in front of you uses, and how thick it is.
Bolsters or flat
A bolster gives a dog a headrest and a sense of enclosure, which suits dogs that lean and curl. A flat mattress is easier to step onto and suits dogs that sprawl or sleep in a crate. Both styles are in this range.
Size by the dog's length
Measure your dog from nose to tail base and add 10 to 15cm. Remember that on a bolster bed the sleeping area is smaller than the headline size, so look at the sleeping-area measurement where we list it.
Washable covers and liners
A removable cover makes a foam bed practical. Look for a zip, and for a waterproof liner or backing if your dog has accidents. The care guide on every page explains how to wash the cover and protect the foam.
